Welcome to Gh Conservatoire College: Department of Brass & Woodwind Performance & Pedagogy
Our Department of Brass Performance & Pedagogy is dedicated to training powerful, versatile, and expressive brass musicians across Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba.
Whether preparing for symphonic orchestras, jazz big bands, contemporary brass quintets, studio session recording, or church and ceremonial ensembles, this program bridges breath mechanics, embouchure health, tone production, sight-reading, and ensemble leadership.
Through a 5-tier academic framework—spanning Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.), Master of Music (M.Mus.), and Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) / Ph.D.—we nurture world-class brass instrumentalists, educators, and orchestral scholars.
Program Philosophy & Educational Pillars
Our brass curriculum focuses on developing unshakeable technique, endurance, and tonal richness across classical, jazz, and contemporary commercial traditions. Each level balances five core pillars:
Embouchure Mechanics & Tone Production: Respiratory efficiency, breath support, lip compression, aperture control, endurance development, and acoustic resonance tuning.
Technique, Flexibility & Range: Valve/slide velocity, double/triple tonguing, lip slurs, extreme register control (altissimo and pedal tones), and pitch intonation.
Orchestral, Jazz & Commercial Literature: Standard orchestral excerpts, solo concerti, big band section playing, jazz improvisation, lead trumpet/trombone execution, and commercial horn section arranging.
Sight-Reading, Transposition & Clef Mastery: Rapid sight-reading, real-time transposition (C, Bb, Eb, F, A trumpet/horn transpositions), and reading treble, bass, tenor, and alto clefs.
Brass Pedagogy & Instrument Maintenance: Teaching techniques, diagnosing embouchure dystonia or performance fatigue, valve/slide rotary mechanics, and brass chamber coaching.
